WHAT IS WICKED ROCK?
WICKED ROCK is a combination of various prongs of attack for the rock ‘n roll scene in South Africa. Firstly, it’s an attitude e-zine that places local and international artists shoulder to shoulder through interviews, adverts, gig and CD reviews.
Wicked Rock is also a rock agent and promoter, having provided bands to festivals, clubs and clients. Wicked Rock and it’s alter ego, Wicked Parties, have booked bands such as Prime Circle, Cassette, Stealing Love Jones, 7th Son, Josie Field, Grynd Rodd Muse, Habit To, Southern Gypsey Queen, jacSharp, Napalma, Bed on Bricks, Plush and many more…
Wicked Parties is now the official face of the booking agency which aims to book for larger events. Numerous acts are dealt with on an ad hoc basis.
“Wicked” is a colloquialism for “cool” and “attitude”.
WHO IS WICKED MIKE?
He’s the force behind Wicked Rock, was the main resident DJ at Burn (2002) and has guest DJed at SA’s top clubs, Witwatersrand’s The Doors and Zeplins. He also performed at Splashy Fen 2003 and has been interviewed by 5FM and D-Tuned. As a music journalist, he’s interviewed numerous bands and reviewed their CDs and performances. He has delivered 10 CD compilations (2 of them doubles) of South African music. He lived in Durban most of his life but at the end of 2009 relocated to the small, beautiful town of Knysna in the Western Cape in South Africa. He runs many sites and blogs including The Knysna Kick, a homage to his beloved home, and his own crazy world at the blog. Wicked Mike.
